If you are anything like how most people are today a discussion about spirituality or spiritual life will probably get you to imagine about a wandering fakir or a priest on church pulpit, depending on which part of the world you are from. We are living in a time when ninety percent of the world considers these words as somewhat of a borderline taboo which should be excluded in public discussions. Somehow it has become a common perception that a spiritual life is a life based on renunciation and sacrifice. The truth is very far away! Ironically, as you end up discovering on this path, a true spiritual life not only offers freedom undreamed of by most people, it also can be a wildly passionate way of living.

While many schools of thought hold many different ideas, basic spirituality can be summarized as follows:

a. There is an all pervading intelligence that is the Creator of this universe.

b. This Divine Energy is the Source of all creation.

c. There is a reason for all things that happen and a purpose for this universe to exist.

d. To put it simply, the reason and purpose is evolution. It is the goal of the universe to evolve from lower states of being into higher states of intelligence and energy.

e. We as human beings have always felt the painful separation from God or the Divine Intelligence since our birth into a body of flesh and bones. Trying to fill the void of separation in their hearts (sometimes even unaware what it is they are feeling), humans have struggled in many different ways. Some of these ways are food, sex, money, trying to dominate other people, control lives of others etc.

f. When we find our way back again and reconnect with God, we experience an absolute sense of freedom and peace.

g. When we experience this amazing feeling of peace and freedom, we are automatically driven to help others awaken to this experience also.

This is the essence and goal of a spiritual life.

Interestingly, as people awaken, they discover that there are many deeper forces that shape their lives! These invisible forces slowly begins to bring about many beneficial circumstances and events in your life without you even asking for it. These are what people call miracles that they commonly experience on their spiritual journey. As you focus more and more with discipline and dedication on your spiritual journey, these miracles and serendipities begin to happen at ever greater extents. It’s like God, in a very realistic way has become a part of your daily life on this physical plane. No prayers are too small or unimportant. All prayers are answered in the most perfect way imaginable. You begin to enjoy a level of freedom and bliss that is almost unimaginable for most people!

When people see the yogi on the mountain what they do not see is here is someone who has given up silly little material gains and received a kingdom full of treasures. Someone who has exchanged our false sense of earthly freedom with an eternal freedom beyond time and space. Someone who has sacrificed trivial earthly pleasures for divine ecstasy! When you see it this way, you suddenly realize how absurd is the idea of our materialistic lifestyle exchanging our entire lives paying for our credit cards and mortgages. A true spiritual life does not mean that you cannot have material riches. You can very well keep whatever you want to, be a family person and also spiritually focused, but sometimes its just nonsensical to carry the chains of our materially bound societies.

A true spiritual life prepares the devotee to see beyond the material obvious and perceive the deeper truths of the universe. Slowly you begin to understand the deeper laws of the universe and use them in your own life. When you get there, your life becomes filled with real magic and miracles. The whole universe comes together to help you move forward and realize your dreams. For now, your dreams and dreams of the universe has become one. The dreams of the one who Created all things.
